About Tunbridge Wells
Royal Tunbridge Wells gained its official title in 1909 as Edward VII’s reward for its continued popularity amongst the Royal Family. This was largely centred around the Chalybeate Spring discovered in 1606. Prior to this it was briefly known initially as ‘Queen’s Wells’ before adopting Tunbridge Wells due to the spring’s proximity to the then larger settlement of Tonbridge, spelt Tunbridge at the time.
Boasting three grammar schools in The Skinners School, Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School and Tunbridge Wells Grammar School for Boys, alongside a plethora of outstanding Primary and Preparatory Schools including the prestigious Holmewood House, Rosehill, Claremont and Beechwood; it’s easy to see why families are making Royal Tunbridge Wells the first choice for their children’s future.
However, with commuting to London Bridge and London Victoria possible in under 45 minutes on the train and the M25 reachable after a 20-minute drive, commuters and young professionals are also making the move to enjoy both an easy trip to work and the vibrant Town life on offer when they return.
